How to Centralize, Simplify, and Empower Your Site Monitors and Tasks--While Lowering Costs

Before we started using Enterprise Commander, problems with our daily product data feeds were sometimes costing us hundreds of dollars a week in refunds for unavailable or mispriced products.

- Kelsey Hilderbrand, High Mountain Hunting Supply Owner

Kelsey's story is not unusual. In fact, I've had the same sorts of things happen to me. I thought I could use a simple cron task to do my site backups. I configured it to notify me of any problems, so no news was good news, right?. But guess what... The cron task itself died for some unknown reason. For many weeks I thought my site backups were humming along perfectly since I got zero notifications.

Fortunately, I discovered the problem before it went critical, but I was living on the ragged edge of disaster and didn't even know it.

Simple site monitoring is good, but if you are a professional web developer or entrpreneur, you need more. Take backups, for example: Even if yours is working perfectly you may not realize how skinny the limb is that you're sitting on. Are your backups stored somewhere besides your server? A server is just a special purpose computer with a really nice hard drive--and hard drives fail, even good ones.

Excercise for Thrill Seekers: Ask your web host what the "mean time to failure" is for the hard drive on your server. Then ask when that server was put into service.

That's why we offer Enteprise Commander customers an Amazon S3 task free of charge. It will move any backup file on your server up to Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service), and keep a rotating window of backups. This means you can keep the most recent week or even a full month of backups on S3. At Amazon you only pay for the storage you use and pricing is quite reasonable.

NOTE: We receive no compensation from Amazon for this. We offer our Amazon S3 task simply because we believe it is in the best interest of our customers.

Back to my point: A simple site monitor can't get your backups off-server and off-site. And it also can't auto-delete old log files, either. Ever had a server crash because the disk was full of log files? I have. And if you need to kick off a database back-up at 2 AM when your customers are asleep, Enterprise Commander can do that, too. In fact, Enterprise Commander can execute any task that can be initiated over the web via HTTP. It stores and logs the results, too, so you can come back anytime and see exactly what happened on any single execution.

Unless you have a big company with dozens of servers and full-time IT staff, you need Enterprise Commander. In fact, we think Enterprise Commander has the potential of helping you avoid or at least delay that kind of overhead. Enterprise Commander works with your existing web server, even if it is on a shared server at a third party hosting company.

Jay and I wrote Enterprise Commander because our clients needed more than just site monitoring. We believe the tool we came up with is the most powerful and flexible solution available. Not only that, but we discovered that is a major sanity saver, too: Instead of checking logs on multiple sites on multiple servers (which can take hours!), Enterprise Commander centralizes all of your task and monitoring information into a single location, and the extensive alarming functions mean that it proactively tells you when things go awry.

I sleep better with Enterprise Commander, and I think you will, too. Order today and you can take advantage of our introductory pricing.

Sincerely,

RossSig
